Ethanol from Kudzu?

July 6, 2008

A Canadian researcher is examining the possibility of making ethanol from kudzu. Adam Crisp of the Chattanooga Times Free Press has the story, which has good news and bad news. The good news is that Tennessee, and the South in general, is the Saudia Arabia of kudzu.  We can run those Ford F 350 pickups forever!  The bad news is that most of the carbohydrates needed to produce alcohol are in the roots of kudzu, which, as anyone who has tried to eradicate this pesky plant can testify, are hard to yank out of the ground.
